Princeton Architectural Press has just released a beautiful hardcover book called Prefab Prototypes: Site-Specific Design for Offsite Construction by architects Mark and Peter Anderson, who have over twenty years’ prefab experience under their tool belts. This book breaks down offsite construction to six approaches used in current prefab practices: panelized 2 x4, CNC timber framing, precast and panelized concrete systems, steel framing, sandwich panels and modular systems. Benefits and disadvantages to each method are examined, using at least three examples from US and Japan-based projects for each chapter, with a final chapter on other “experiments”.
